What is Domino?

Domino is a term that describes any action that causes a cascade of events to follow. We’ve all seen domino constructions that show how by tipping the first piece ever-so-slightly, all the other pieces fall in a rhythmic and beautiful pattern. Similarly, writers often refer to the “domino effect” when describing the way certain plot beats in their novel logically and naturally lead into the next scene. This concept helps writers create a more cohesive, and often faster-paced, narrative.

The word domino is actually a Latin word meaning “lord, master” and was used in a number of different ways throughout history. It was once a term for a cloak worn at masquerades, and it was also used to describe the top portion of a mask. It was only in the early 19th century that the word took on its modern sense of a single tile used to play the game of domino.

The domino is a type of polyhedron, and it is usually constructed from wood or some other sturdy material such as concrete or metal. The vertices of the domino are numbered in one dimension, and the faces are arranged in such a way that the top of the cube is face up. The bottom of the domino is flat and serves as a base for other tiles to be laid on top. There are many variants of the domino, and they differ primarily in how the sides of the domino are decorated.

A domino is normally twice as long as it is wide, and the vertices of each side are marked with values called pips. The pips range from six to zero, and a domino with more pips is said to have more value. A domino can also be described as being heavier or lighter depending on the amount of pips it has.

Some learning challenges impact students like falling dominos. Compensating for a weak skill taxes the student’s working memory capacity, and over time, the extra information becomes overwhelming. When the compensatory skills are exhausted, the student’s performance begins to erode.

Domino is a mutant who can influence the laws of probability to shift odds in her favor, and is a weapons expert, martial arts master, and linguist. She was part of the government’s Project Armageddon genetic engineering experiments and is able to use her powers to affect the odds in favor of those around her. She was an initial member of X-Force but quit when Pete Wisdom turned the team into a proactive black ops unit. Afterwards, she rejoined the Wild Pack (renamed the Six Pack) led by Cable. She later helped sabotage Rumekistan and the island paradise Providence, and, after Cable lobotomized himself to gain control of his mutant powers, she confronted him and saved the day.
